Painted my vanity cover and put it back on. The red looks brighter than it actually is because it hasn't completely dried and is reflecting the stupid-bright sun (damn you, ball of fire).
Wheee.
Finally another splash of red to match with my pinstripes.

Next up is the fuse cover!
Don't forget to get the horns bro, JDM.

I hope you used some hard ass heat resistant paint, because that will look like shit in days if you didn't.

Some stuff that's good up to ~240 degrees, which my engine never reaches.

I used to steam clean my engine a lot, but that's about it.

I use Simple Green. 50/50 mix of that and water. Cover air filter and alternator and fuse box (no battery in my engine bay), get it all wet, then douse everything in a crapload of Simple Green mix. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, then rinse it off again and boom, clean engine bay.
Mine hadn't been cleaned since the car was bought 14 years ago, and it sparkled like new after doing that.

you should also paint red the ring around the grill and the ring around the grill badge

Damn! That's a big air filter! (that's what she said!)

"Hey Jake, you think this'll fit in your engine bay?"
*tosses me enormous air filter*
"Just watch me."
That's the story behind that. PCM is held down with zip ties and coathanger wire (it's really REALLY solid, actually).

I bet it would look cool if you painted the "3800 Series II" script black for contrast.

I can't decide if that would be too much or not. I have some more pinstriping tape so I might do it with that since it can be removed.

Used to date an assistant manager at a Mercedes dealership, so I had access to a steam cleaner. Once in a while I even got to use a lift.

I'm going to sand the paint off of the raised lettering when it's done drying, most likely.

You could eradicate ebola permanently if you drove through Africa once with that filter.

Nice! That's probably a lot easier.

I hear you should use chapstick on the lettering prior to paint, and then it will just wipe off. Haven't tried it myself though.

Good thing he didn't paint his exhaust manifolds then...

Won't be too much, you gotta do it.

curious question. What's it look like under without the cover?

Ah, well. Crap. That would have been useful info. I'll use that in the future, though.

That car was an '87 Merc, where everything under the hood was bolted down to within an inch of its life. Never steam cleaned the SHO because, while the build quality was good, the water might have gone places it shouldn't.

I... I don't understand. I don't ever want to shit on anyone's car because that's not what this site is about, and I can appreciate the 3.8 super shoved in this Buick Grandmaster or whatever the hell its called, from the factory... but the modifications are supposed to be ironic... right?
